Constitution of Kentucky Association of Chinese Language Teachers

Article I: Name

The name of the organization shall be the Kentucky Association of Chinese Language Teachers (KACLT).

Article II: Purpose

The purpose of this organization shall be to serve the interests and needs of Kentucky teachers of Chinese and the teaching of Chinese at all level of instruction, in both public and private schools, to stimulate professional growth, and to foster interest in the Chinese language and Chinese-speaking literatures and cultures.

Article III: Membership

Membership in this organization shall be open, upon payment of dues, to teachers of Chinese at all levels, to former teachers of Chinese, administrators, students of Chinese, and friends of the Chinese language and Chinese –speaking cultures.
Membership is based on the calendar year and runs from January 1st to December 31.
The dues for regular members are payable in the fall of the year proceeding the membership year. Members who have not paid their dues by December 31st are considered inactive.

Article IV: Officers

The officers of KACLT shall be a President, Vice-President, a Secretary, and a Treasurer. It is possible that the vice President or Secretary may combine his/her duties with the function of Treasurer.
Only KACLT members in good standing (dues paid up to date) may be nominated and serve as officers.

1. President- The duties of the President shall, in addition to the usual ones of calling and presiding over meeting of KACLT, approve all orders drawn against funds of the organization.
The president’s term shall be for a period of two years. S/He shall succeed to office automatically from the position of Vice-President.

2. Vice-President- The Vice-President shall preside over meetings and act in the place of the President in the absence of the latter. If the President becomes unable for any reason to complete his/her term, the Vice-President shall succeed to the presidency and complete the President’s term. Then s/he shall enter upon his/her own regular term as President.

3. Secretary- The Secretary keeps the minutes of the business meetings, makes the necessary mailing to members.

4. Treasurer- The Treasurer keeps detailed financial accounts of receipts and disbursements, makes a complete financial report at the fall meeting of KACLT.He/she will keep an up-to-date list of active members of KACLT.

Article V: Meetings

The chapter shall have at least two meetings a year, one in the fall in conjunction with the Kentucky World Language Association meeting, and the second in the winter. Other special meetings may be called by the President in consultation with his/her Executive Board.

Article VI: Executive Board

The Executive Board of KACLT shall consist of the four elected officers and the immediate Past-President.

Article VII: Amendments
The Constitution may be amended by a two-thirds vote of the members present at any regular or special meeting, providing that notice announcing the exact nature and wording of the proposed amendment shall have been sent in writing to each member of the chapter at least one month in advance, along with the time and place of the meeting.
