the Next Generation Academies

Dear Teachers,

Good news! The announcement and application form for the Next Generation Academies is now online at
This year the Kentucky World Language Association, the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts and the Kentucky Department of Education are offering World Language Academies:
  • Next Generation Academy for Integration of the Arts and World Languages (Spanish, Chinese, and new this year – French)
For the World Languages Academy, consideration will be given to applications from teachers who have attended last year, however, reference will be given to teachers who have not attended previously. This year's academy will focus on new content in both Spanish and Chinese, and there will be a new academy for French!
This is part of an Elementary School Arts & World Language grant, so a preference will be given to K-8 teachers, but the content is also appropriate for high school teachers and secondary teachers are encouraged to apply.
The Academies will take place in Richmond, KY on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University. Dormitory housing is available (see announcement for details). World Language teachers may also attend a pre-Academy workshop called"An Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) Familiarization Workshop" on June 17th.

Teachers are paid a stipend of $500 to attend, or they may opt for PD credit (6 hours of PD credit per day instead of $100 daily stipend) for some of those days as allowed by their district. Teachers also receive resources developed by Kentucky Educational Television (KET).
If you have any questions or difficulty submitting the form, please don’t hesitate to contact Jeff Jamner at (email preferred) or 502-562-0703.
